Former DNC Official Says He Wants Abdul El-Sayed to Lose: ‘DSA Candidates Don’t Represent my Party’

Jose Aristimuño, a former Deputy National Press Secretary for the Democratic Party, told Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner on Monday that he hopes Abdul El-Sayed loses his bid for the U.S. Senate in Michigan come November, despite being a Democrat.

In a segment on the rising progressive left in the Democratic Party, Faulkner asked Aristimuño if establishment Democrats can find a way to keep the party from lurching too far to the left.

“Growing extremism will surely backfire. And New York Post opinion here: ‘Woke might be wounded, but the radical left is still infiltrating our politics.’ Power panel now: Democrat strategist Jose Aristimuño and former NRSC senior advisor Matt Whitlock. Gentlemen, I welcome you. Jose, I’m going to start with you, because week by week you and I often will talk about these things on the air, where this is really going. Now, you’ve got Hakeem Jeffries, who thinks he can call everybody together — can’t he?” began Faulkner.

“Look, he needs to do it. He needs to do it, otherwise he’s another one that’s got to go. There’s an in-fight here within the Democratic Party, and it is very clear: do we want to turn this country into Cuba, into Venezuela, or do we want to be the United States of America, the greatest country on Earth?” Aristimuño replied, adding:

I think the majority of Democrats agree with me — they’re center Democrats, but they need to speak up. I’m not too worried, by the way, about the Twittersphere and the folks saying all the stuff that you just pulled up on the program. I think there are some extreme left candidates that have been winning; I think they’re going to lose in the primaries. I think center Democrats need to continue to stand up the way that we did in New Jersey, Virginia, and here in Miami.

“Give me an example of those real quickly — who do you think won’t win?” Faulkner replied.

“Well, I think — El-Sayed for example, in Michigan — I think he’s somebody that won’t be able to and I hope he doesn’t, look, I always say I’m a Democrat and I want Democrats to win, but these DSA candidates do not represent my party, and I think a majority of Democrats know that, but some of them don’t want to speak up,” Aristimuño replied.

El-Sayed, notably, is not officially a member of the DSA, despite being closely affiliated with the movement and appearing with far-left figures like Hasan Piker.
