Fox Business Reporter Says He Broke News of Tariff Pause to Trump White House Staffers: ‘Looked at Me With Blank Stares’
A Fox Business Network reporter claims he informed White House communications staffers of the 90-day hold on tariffs after they apparently didn’t know President Donald Trump had posted his intentions on Truth Social.
Edward Lawrence says White House communications staffers stared at him blankly when he alerted them to a Truth Social post, in which the president announced he was pausing the tariffs for 90 days.
LAWRENCE: This is really interesting what’s happened. I was actually the one who walked into the lower press here– that;s where a number of the press communication folks are at the White House communication folks are at the white House and I asked them, “Is it true, a 90 day pause? And they looked at me with a blank stares. I had to tell the press folks The president put on truth social and was considering the 90 day pause on tariffs, So its news to the White House.
Lawrence’s statement came minutes after Trump announced “a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff” for the 75 Countries who have “called Representatives of the United States,” who have “negotiated a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs.”
In the same message, Trump announced that he was raising the retaliatory tariff rate to China to 125 “based on the lack of respect.”
