Fox Host Says ‘California Could Go Red’ Because a Former Fox Host Is Running for Governor

A Fox News host suggested that the liberal bastion of California “could go red” in next year’s gubernatorial election after eight years of Governor Gavin Newsom.

Newsom is term-limited and is widely expected to run for president in 2028. Republicans have long used California as a political punching bag and, ahead of 2028, Newsom as well. This month, President Donald Trump federalized 4,000 members of the state’s National Guard and deployed 700 Marines to Los Angeles after scattered acts of vandalism were committed amid protests of deportation raids in the city. Newsom objected to the deployments.

On Wednesday’s Outnumbered on Fox News, Fox Business host Cheryl Casone argued that California could vote Republican in next year’s election while noting that former Fox host Steve Hilton could be the state’s next governor.

“I really miss Governor Schwarzenegger,” co-host Emily Compagno said, referring to the state’s last Republican governor, who left office in 2011. “As a Californian, I can say that.”

“I think California can go red, I really do,” Casone replied. “Steve Hilton is running for governor there. But I do believe there’s gonna be a big sea change, not just Los Angeles, but also the state of California, because they’ve had it. Their state has been overrun, as you know, as many states in the country have been.”

Casone concluded the residents of large American cities are fed up with illegal immigration, particularly people who immigrated legally “because they did it the right way.”

The U.K.-born Hilton left his Fox News weekend show in 2023, but remained as a contributor until this year to run for governor.
