Fox News Contributor Declares Obama ‘One of the Most Divisive Presidents’ Of All Time
According to conservative commentator and Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich, former President Barack Obama was one of the most divisive presidents in U.S. history.
The famously measured Obama obviously presents a stark contrast to current President Donald Trump, who kicked off his 2016 presidential campaign by calling Mexican immigrants “rapists.” Obama harped on that contrast in a campaign speech Monday night, also lamenting Trump’s aversion to facts (The Washington Post tracker had Trump at more than 4,000 false of misleading claims as president by August).
Pavlich was unimpressed. On Outnumbered Tuesday, She decried the former president for trying to take credit for Trump’s economy, accusing Obama of lying about Benghazi (The Washington Post lists Obama’s “biggest whoppers” here, though he’s a little short of 4,000).
Outnumbered host Melissa Francis noted that in his speech, Obama called for a return for civility, and described his pitch to Americans is to “return to a kinder, gentler time.”
“That’s just not true!” Pavlich protested. “Barack Obama was one of the most divisive presidents we’ve ever had.”
“For him to now be lecturing the rest of the country about how he’s the civil one is ridiculous,” Pavlich — a supporter of Trump, who has called Democrats and the media “enemies” — concluded.
It’s worth recalling this anecdote about Steve Bannon, the mastermind of Trump’s 2016 campaign, via the Daily Beast:
Then we had a long talk about his approach to politics. He never called himself a “populist” or an “American nationalist,” as so many think of him today. “I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.
Shocked, I asked him what he meant.
“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.” Bannon was employing Lenin’s strategy for Tea Party populist goals. He included in that group the Republican and Democratic Parties, as well as the traditional conservative press.
Literally stating the intent to divide does seem to be more definitive than anything Obama — who famously declared, “There is not a liberal America and a conservative America – there is the United States of America” — ever said.
