Harsh: Cleveland Fans Heckle Motor City With ‘Detroit’s Bankrupt’ Chant

When the city of Detroit filed for bankruptcy last month, the implications for the city’s economy were apparent. But what about for it’s baseball team? This week, the Detroit Tigers were on the road playing the Cleveland Indians when they got a message from the Cleveland fans that had to sting.

It was the top of the 9th, with the score tied at 4-4 when some enterprising Detroit fans in the stadium started chanting “Let’s go Tigers!” They were immediately booed and shouted down by the much larger Cleveland contingent, who spontaneously responded with a chant of their own: “Detroit’s bankrupt!”

Detroit got the last laugh, winning the game 6-5 in the 14th inning. But the psychological damage was done.
