‘He Damaged the Pool!’ Jeanine Pirro Gets Snippy With Reporter Pressing for Specifics on Alleged Pool Vandal
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced Thursday that former Olympian David Hearn was indicted by a D.C. grand jury on a felony charge for allegedly vandalizing the Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C.
Pirro accused Hearn, 67, of ripping out a piece of sealant from the bottom of the pool in June, which may have caused algae to grow in the pool following President Donald Trump’s much-hyped and rushed renovation.
“One of the most offensive images that I hold in my mind are the images of national monuments that are being debased, roped, torn down, graffitied, and damaged by individuals,” Pirro fumed during the press conference before taking questions.
“Was this part of the goal specifically? Was the sealant already partially removed, or did he rip it back? He just described it in detail, because he maintains that it looks the same as it did before he arrived. That’s his–” asked a reporter of Hearn’s defense as Pirro jumped in:
You know, I’m not going to get into the evidence, but what I told you is what our witnesses saw and experienced. There was an effort, a violent effort, to rip up the sealant from the bottom of the pool. And irrespective of whether or not, you know, we think that there is some situation that preceded it, we can state and prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he caused damage, and that damage is over a thousand dollars.
“Key in on that — how do you prove that $1,000?” pushed the reporter.
“With an expert, come to the trial,” Pirro insisted as the reporter asked if the pool would have to be drained.
“You… we will hear all that at the trial,” Pirro insisted.
“Did he have any tools, or is it just his bare hands?” pushed the reporter more.
“Right now we believe it’s his bare hands, both hands,” Pirro shot back, losing her patience.
“Does that indicate, in your belief, that it was probably damaged before, or do you believe that he — oh, he damaged it — further, but do you think it had already been damaged before?” asked the reporter.
“He damaged the pool. He damaged this pool!” she insisted.
“But there have been, you know, all these videos, obviously—” added the reporter as Pirro shot back, “Well, good — I’m glad you’ve got that evidence. Come on in, the grand jury, you can testify.”
“Next,” she added, moving on.
