‘It Matters More Than You Think’: Piers Morgan Hits Back at James Carville For Dismissing Trans Athletes Issue
Piers Morgan pushed back after Democratic strategist James Carville on Friday dismissed debate around transgender athletes as not a concern for Democrats.
On Piers Morgan Uncensored, Carville waved off concerns about transgender athletes taking part in women’s sports. That debate picked up steam this week after California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) broke with some Democrats on the issue, saying it’s “deeply unfair” to have women competing against transgender athletes.
“If you’re concerned about the state track meet, please do something about it. We have an athletic association, they can do it,” Carville told Morgan about the issue. “But if you’re more concerned with that or more concerned about bathroom stalls, then hang out in bathrooms. This is not of a concern to me. There are people that can deal with this. I’m worried about the cost of living. I’m worried about access to healthcare.”
Morgan jumped in to push back on Carville’s dismissal, arguing the transgender athletes debate was a large reason for Democrats losing the presidency in 2024.
He argued:
“I would dispute that. A lot of Democrats have tried to say to me, ‘It didn’t really matter, the trans stuff and the woke stuff’ and I keep saying, I think it matters more than you think. That when Trump positioned himself as the voice of common sense, and you had a party led by Joe Biden and Kamala, who both thought it’s fine for biological men to compete in women’s sport, for example, that actually that was more powerful than people realized, in the third tier of why they voted. Economy, one, immigration, two, woke mind virus, three. Supported by Kamala Harris.”
Carville noted that he speaks out against Democratic “faculty lounge goofy academic language” more than most and admitted Republicans have successfully capitalized on social issues like transgender athletes. He argued Democrats need to listen less to the “far left.”
The strategist still dismissed the issue as one he doesn’t “think about” all that much.
“[Kamala] Harris was for taxpayer transition surgeries for prisoners, okay? I’ve researched it myself, that is not my number one thing,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t think about it that much.”
