Joe Scarborough: Rooting For The President But Someone In The White House Is Clueless

During a lengthy conversation on Morning Joe regarding the worldwide economic turmoil, Joe Scarborough may have caught some viewers by surprise when a typical discussion about financial markets and politics turned into a unique moment where Scarborough revealed an honest, sobering and completely devastating assessment of President Obama and the times we are living in today. What may have made Scarborough’s monologue all the more powerful, was the calm tone with which he delivered what could best be described as a regrettably sad statement of “no confidence” in our current President.

Perhaps encouraged by former Newsweek editor and historian Jon Meacham who concluded “the President was curiously not making an impression” last weekend when so much bad news was happening worldwide, Scarborough, sounding completely crestfallen, concluded:

“The fact that the President waited to talk about the [Navy] SEAL’s [killed in Afghanistan] and then just kind of put that in on the end of a press conference ‘oh and by the way.’ Somebody in the White House doesn’t get it. Somebody in the White House is clueless. When you have thirty Americans die and it’s treated that way. Again, I’m baffled. And I’m rooting for the President. We all are rooting for the President. If Rush Limbaugh is still rooting against the President, then he’s also rooting for America to be in a fast decline, rooting for his stocks to collapse. These are precarious times and we need a President who knows what he’s doing and we need a President who has the support of the American people. But Willie [Geist], right now, this President is creating a lot more questions than answers.”

If these words alone don’t suggest the graveness with which I suspect Scarborough intends, maybe when they are combined with Meacham’s historical verdict, hinting that Obama doesn’t measure up to Ronald Reagan, it might encourage viewers to take a step back and really wonder what is going on here? Meacham suggests “the capacity to instill confidence is the mark of a great president, and right now it’s very doubtful we’re going to be in that situation.”

With many commentators and political observers now doubting Obama’s ability to be a “great president,” and with his seeming inability to comprehend the urgency or seriousness of the circumstances around him, I truly wonder when the conclusion that this President is simply not an “effective leader” no longer is a partisan critique and is simply an acknowledgement of reality?
