Lara Trump and Fox Host Gush Over Chris Nolan’s Odyssey Amid MAGA Uproar

Fox News’ Lara Trump and Griff Jenkins gushed over Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey after the film got major backlash on social media from MAGA critics.

On Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday, Jenkins shared the first part of his interview with Nolan about the filmmaker’s adaptation of the classic Homer epic poem.

The former war correspondent praised the film during the discussion with Nolan, and continued that praise after the interview.

“We were talking after the interview because obviously I talked about how I felt…with what Odysseus is struggling with, with what he’d seen in war and the things that soldiers should never see, [and] I had seen, and that’s what [Matt] Damon’s struggling with,” Jenkins said.

“But in our conversation afterwards he said that they’ve actually screened this already on military bases with Matt Damon and some of them, with the soldier, sailors, airmen, Marines and were getting a similar positive feedback,” he added.

Lara Trump called the movie “good stuff.”

“I love to see things on the big screen that make you want to go to the movie theater. I feel like after Covid, people stopped going to see movies. I feel this is the kind of thing that makes you want go with your spouse, go to dinner, go to a movie,” she said.

“This is what we want to see more of. I love seeing Hollywood actually putting things out there that you feel great about watching,” she added.

Charles Hurt brought up one criticism thrown at the film in its lack of a Greek cast and offered one joking correction to Nolan, naming his own favorite adaptation of The Odyssey as the Coen Brothers’ O Brother, Where Art Thou?

“I have to say that he’s wrong about one thing. He says that this is the only modern adaptation. No. O Brother, Where Art Thou? is the greatest adaptation of The Odyssey and I’ll be really interested to see whether that this manages to beat O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Hurt said.

Jenkins assured his colleague Nolan’s film was a “visual masterpiece.”

“You’re going to hear tomorrow in the second part of our interview he talks about you know when you see a 1,000 people warriors out on the battlefield in the battle of Troy, that was actually a 1000 people,” Jenkins said.

“Oh, that’s cool. See, I love that,” Trump agreed.

Nolan’s Odyssey has been getting hit with backlash from MAGA voices taking issue with what they describe as “woke” casting decisions, including Lupita Nyong’o playing Helen of Troy and transgender actor Elliot Page having a role as Sinon.

Elon Musk has been one of the most vocal critics, claiming Nolan “desecrated” the epic poem so “would be eligible for an Academy Award.”

The backlash hasn’t carried over to the film’s box office though. The Odyssey is on track for an opening weekend of $117 million, which would be the biggest opening for a live action film this year, after opening to more than $17.6 in preview screenings on Thursday night.
