Meghan McCain On Sarah Palin’s Presidential Plans: ‘I Don’t Understand What She’s Doing’
Despite her thinly veiled protestations, Sarah Palin clearly wants the world to see her as a future presidential candidate for 2012. This was the lead topic today on America Live as host Megyn Kelly had on as guest Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain, Palin’s former running mate and political ally. When pressed to opine on Palin’s presidential hype, McCain did her best to hide her disdain before questioning why the future leader of the country is doing on a reality show, echoing similar thoughts made by Karl Rove.
Clearly McCain is not a huge fan of Palin as president and identifies herself as a member of Team Romney. But her specific words for the former running mate of her father seems to be delivered from a very clenched perspective.
Megyn Kelly: So do you believe that she really could win the Republican nomination for sure?
Meghan McCain: I think there are many variables in any campaign. I have a hard timetk indicating right now this second. I want to know who she is going to put together for her team, who is going to run her campaign. How hard is she going to hit at New Hampshire, is she going to go to Iowa.
Kelly: You saw behind the scenes, you had more access to her than any of the rest of us did. Do you think she is the real deal, does she have the substance to be the leader of this country?
McCain: I don’t know. I don’t understand what she is doing if she wants to be the leader of this country doing a reality show. It’s not the path I would take if I was advising someone to run to president. Obama made everything possible, he was a pop culture president. maybe this is the most expensive political ad of all time.
McCain also doubled down on her previous critique of Christine O’Donnnel, pegged to the Tea Party endorsed candidate’s recent appearance on Leno in which claimed to want to leave the option open to run again:
McCain: She has run three times, she’s lost three times. could she do it successfully a fourth? no, not at all, are you kidding? no.
Kelly: Tell us how you really feel.
McCain: I think she has a great chance of having a great reality show, a book, maybe a comentatorship somewhere. Running for office? I don’t think she can win.
Kelly: Meghan McCain is allowed to have her opinion. We invite all opinions on this show.
Um…defending the opinions of Ms. McCain on one’s show does not exactly support the notion of “fair and balanced” but we get what Ms. Kelly was going for. Watch the video from Fox News below:
PS – Note to Saturday Night Live writers – how come you have yet to do a satirical segment featuring Ms. Kelly and Ms. McCain? Meghan vs. Megyn has all the makings of a decent skit in the style of The Daily Show‘s old Even Stevphen featuring Stephen Colbert and Steve Carrrell. Get to work.
