Ocasio-Cortez Defends Her ‘List’ of Dems to Target in Primaries: They’re ‘Susceptible’ to GOP Manipulation

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is defending reports that she warned fellow House Democrats who vote in bipartisan ways that they may be “putting themselves on a list” during an interview with NY 1.

The alleged threat came after some Democratic congressmen voted in favor of a Republican amendment to their gun control bill.

“So what happened this week was that there was a Republican procedural maneuver called motion to recommit. The thing about this is that it happens about 5 minutes before passage of major legislation. In this case, it’s ‘H.R.A.’ the gun safety legislation that advocates have been working on for years to get to the floor of the House and so for months and months people are working on this legislation,” she explained.

“And there was a group of Democrats that had splintered off from the party to at the last moment add a pro-ICE amendment expansion of power for ICE to a gun safety bill, which—you know I’ve heard this before I understand ideological differences, if you are a Democrat that believes that ICE should have more power in this time that’s one thing,” she continued.

Ocasio-Cortez shamed the Democrats for going along with the “Republican maneuver” to add a “poison pill” minutes before they are set to vote on the bill.

“I communicated as such in the committee and when I said ‘you’re making a list,’ what I’m saying is that you are by separating yourself out from the caucus you have made a list in the vote count of the caucus of Democrats that is susceptible to Republican manipulation and frankly will be held accountable by progressive activists and advocates who say ‘stop negotiating away the rights of immigrants for completely unrelated legislation,” she said.
