Ryan Ferguson Describes His First Day Outside Prison to Morning Shows

Ryan Ferguson, who was released from prison yesterday after a court overturned his murder conviction and 40-year sentence, spoke to a variety of news media outlets on life outside of prison, how he made it through almost a decade in prison, and what he planned to do next.

“It’s been a wild ride,” Ferguson told NBC’s Savannah Guthrie. “Seeing the light come out and the sun come up, it’s pretty incredible.”

Ferguson praised his family and his lawyers for functioning as his support group, and said he was happier for his parents upon his release than he was for himself.

Ferguson entered prison in 2005, when he was nineteen years old.

“They’ve taken my twenties,” he said. “I’m twenty-nine, but I’ve never really lived as an adult in the free world.”

But Ferguson remained optimistic.

“Anything’s possible,” Ferguson told CBS. “I’m going to keep working hard, both mentally and physically. I really believe the opportunities are going to come my way.”
