Senator Kennedy Goes Viral After Dropping New Nickname for DSA Democrats in Savage Takedown

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) debuted a colorful new nickname for Democratic socialists Monday night on Fox News, deriding them as “Lulu Lenins.”

The moment came in a conversation with Sean Hannity on Monday’s edition of his Fox News program. Kennedy was in the middle of criticizing former Vice President Kamala Harris, telling Hannity, “No disrespect, but Vice President Harris is no longer relevant.”

“She had her shot, and she missed,” the Louisiana senator continued. “She can cozy up to the ‘Lulu Lenins’ all she wants to.” Here, Kennedy was combining the name of popular athletic apparel brand Lululemon with that of Vladimir Lenin, the Russian revolutionary who founded the Soviet Union.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has backed candidates for offices across the country, including congressional, state and local races. Republicans have increasingly sought to tie those candidates — and Democrats more broadly — to communism, with President Donald Trump and other GOP figures repeatedly deploying the label against left-wing opponents.

In a recent example, the president trashed Michigan Democratic Senate primary winner Abdul El-Sayed as a “Communist loser who hates Jews and Israel.”

Now, this isn’t the first time Kennedy has flexed his talent for colorful political insults. In July, he described the list of countries that have tried and failed with socialism as being as long as “King Kong’s genitalia.” Discussing former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s firing in March, he recalled that after a phone conversation with the president, he knew “she was dead as fried chicken.” And in February, he said that some anti-ICE protesters give off what he called an “I’ve got a freezer full of body parts in my basement vibe.”
