Terry Moran Joins Substack After ABC Ouster: ‘Independence Day!’
Terry Moran, the veteran ABC News anchor dropped by the network after unloading on President Donald Trump and top aide Stephen Miller, has revealed that he is heading to Substack in a debut post titled “Independence Day.”
Moran, who served at the network for nearly three decades, was suspended over the weekend and later informed that his contract would not be renewed after posting on X that Trump and Miller are “world-class” haters.
ABC News swiftly condemned the remarks as “a clear violation” of company policy.
On Wednesday, Moran addressed the situation in a video uploaded to X.
“For almost 28 years I was a reporter and anchor for ABC News,” he said. “And as you may have heard, I’m not there anymore.”
Moran used the moment to announce his move into independent journalism on Substack, the fast-growing newsletter platform that’s become a haven for media figures sidelined or disillusioned with traditional outlets.
“I can’t wait to get at it, to get at the important work that we all have to do in this time of such trouble for our country,” Moran said in the clip. “I’m going to be reporting and interviewing and just sharing with you and hoping to hear from you as well.”
The longtime White House correspondent’s post-ABC pivot puts him among a growing cohort of journalists turning to subscriber-funded platforms amid political headwinds in corporate media.
“So, it’ll be a few days, maybe a little bit longer, got to get some stuff sorted out, but can’t wait to see you,” Moran concluded.
