Trump Absolutely Lights Up Andrew McCabe: ‘A Poor Man’s J. Edgar Hoover’
Wednesday at the White House, President Donald Trump offered his take on former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe — amid the ex-official’s ongoing media blitz. And the commander-in-chief’s assessment was… let’s call it unsparing.
In a rant delivered while he was seated alongside Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Trump compared McCabe to the most famous (and infamous) figure in FBI history.
“I think Andrew McCabe has made a fool out of himself over the last couple of days,” Trump said. “He really looks to me like sort of a poor man’s J. Edgar Hoover. I think it’s a disaster.”
Trump referenced the inspector general’s report in which McCabe was found to have leaked to the press, and misled investigators as well as former FBI director James Comey.
“He is a disgraced man,” Trump said. “He was terminated — not by me, he was terminated by others. The IG report was a disaster, a disaster from his standpoint. Anybody reading the IG report would say, ‘How could a man like this be involved with the FBI?’ And the FBI has some of the greatest people, some of the finest people you’ll ever meet. But this man is a complete disaster.”
