Trump Re-Election Advisory Council Member Claims President Was ‘the Victim of Fraud’ in Undocumented Worker Case
Following a New York Times report revealing an undocumented immigrant staffed President Donald Trump‘s New Jersey golf club for more than five years, a member of his re-election advisory council says he’s not to blame.
Speaking to host Erin Burnett Thursday night during a panel discussion, Steve Cortes railed against illegal immigration, sympathizing with Trump whom he felt was duped when the Bedminster Club hired the housekeeper.
“She should be [fired],” he said. “She’s not a legal worker. She used counterfeit documents to obtain the job. The president is the victim in this case. He’s the victim of fraud.”
However, Keith Boykin, a former White House aide under the Clinton administration, pointed out Trump’s pattern of outsourcing labor for his products and bringing in seasonal workers from across the border to staff his businesses despite his outrage over illegal immigration.
“This is typical Trump inconsistency,” Boykin declared.”Trump does a lot of talk about immigration and how horrible it is to have foreigners coming here and taking our jobs, but he’s one of the chief culprits that’s guilty of the practice.”
Though Burnett suggested that Trump should have known, stating that “it would appear a little bit hard for him to have not realized” upon meeting the Guatemalan employee, Victorina Morales, Cortes defended the president further
“If she said, ‘I’m from Guatemala’ and he were to say ‘are you illegal?’ you would attack him for being biased against Hispanics and biased against foreign people,” he told Burnett.
Still, she contended that “everybody knows” that “this is how it’s done” when it comes to getting hired without legitimate documentation.
Though Cortes then acknowledged that Trump is “aware that those businesses are largely operated that way,” he said Morales’ act was grounds for her firing.
“There’s nothing courageous about breaking into our country and taking a job of the American citizens. That’s not courage. That’s a crime.”
