Trump Teases Greenland Takeover With Challenge to MAGA Host: ‘Make That Bet’

President Donald Trump said Friday that Greenland would fall under U.S. control before the end of his presidency, telling a MAGA interviewer to “make that bet” and reviving one of his administration’s most controversial foreign policy ambitions.

Trump made the remarks during a ranging call-in interview on right-wing broadcaster Real America’s Voice, when host Steve Gruber raised the president’s long-running campaign to bring the Arctic territory under American control.

“Here’s another question. You’re also still looking at Greenland,” Gruber said. “I made a prediction on this program that before you left office that Greenland would be under our operational control. It’s still incredibly important to defending the Western Hemisphere, isn’t it?”

Trump responded by expressing confidence in the prediction: “Yeah, you’ll be right if you took that. Yeah, you’ll be right. No, we want to do something very important. Greenland’s important, you know, from our standpoint, not from their standpoint, but from our standpoint. You should make that bet actually.”

After Gruber replied, “I did make that bet and I think it’s incredibly important,” Trump answered simply: “Good.”

The exchange is the latest indication that Trump continues to pursue the idea of expanding U.S. influence over Greenland, a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark that has repeatedly rejected suggestions it could become part of the U.S.

Trump has argued throughout his second term that American control of Greenland is necessary for national security, citing the island’s strategic position in the Arctic amid growing competition with Russia and China.

Speaking at a NATO summit in early July, Trump again insisted the territory was critical to U.S. interests but “not important to Denmark.”

“We need it for protection of the world, not just the United States,” he said at the time.

Earlier in his term, he declined to rule out using military force to secure what he described as America’s “right, title and ownership” of the island, though he has since said military options are no longer under consideration.
