WATCH: CNN Anchor Does a Double-Take After DSA Candidate Vows to Deliver a ‘Whooping’ to Her General Election Foe

CNN anchor Laura Coates had a hard time hiding her shock as democratic socialist Angie Nixon (D) declared on live TV Monday night that she looked forward to “whooping” her Republican opponent in Florida’s Senate race.

The moment came shortly after the state lawmaker scored an upset victory in Florida’s Democratic primary. Nixon will now face off against President Donald Trump’s preferred candidate, Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL), in Florida’s special election in November to see who finishes Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s Congressional term.

Nixon vented that she was disgusted by Moody because the Republican “doesn’t care about anyone but herself,” saying that’s why Moody voted against extending Affordable Care Act subsidies; Nixon claimed Moody’s vote led to 300,000 people getting hosed.

“So I look forward, Ashley Moody, to taking you on and to whooping you in November,” Nixon fumed. “And you will be calling me your senator!”

Coates looked like she had just got a whiff of something really bad when she heard Nixon’s closing remark, with the anchor raising her eyebrows and looking down. She then thanked Nixon for coming on the show, before giving a similar surprised look as she pivoted to a segment with CNN data guru Harry Enten.

Nixon’s victory adds to a growing list of democratic socialists who have won Democratic primaries in recent months.

Two of those candidates in New York — Darializa Avila Chevalier (D) and Claire Valdez (D) — are card-carrying members of the Democratic Socialists of America, just like NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D); Nixon is also a DSA member.

Beyond its socialist economic agenda, the DSA website said it is against Trump’s “racist immigration policies” and America being allied with Israel, which it said has committed a “genocide” in Gaza.

Trump has ripped the socialists and socialism plenty of times lately, including when he said communism is a “cancer” that must be dealt with ASAP during his Fourth of July address.

He issued a similar warning during a July speech in Georgia. Trump said it is really simple to understand: “With communism, everything turns to sh*t!”
