‘What’s Wrong With You?!’ Democratic C-SPAN Caller Loses It on Ex-Biden Aide for Attacking Abdul El-Sayed

A viewer called into C-SPAN’s Washington Journal on Sunday to blast a Democratic strategist over his criticism of Abdul El-Sayed.

El-Sayed, a progressive, rocked the political landscape with his Democratic primary win over moderate Haley Stevens in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race. He will next face Republican Mike Rogers in November’s general election.

As has been the case with other progressives across the country, El-Sayed’s win has led to intense debates over the future of the Democratic Party. While some have insisted that the party should be led by new, younger faces, others have argued that the party has begun moving too far to the left. Many of the party’s progressive candidates have been endorsed by — and even members of — the Democratic Socialists of America.

On Sunday, Democratic strategist and former press secretary for Jill Biden, Michael LaRosa, joined Republican strategist Adam Goodman for a debate on the midterm elections. The talk was moderated by C-SPAN’s Peter Slen.

When the conversation was opened up to calls, a man identified as Michael from Brooklyn had harsh words for LaRosa and his criticism of El-Sayed.

“Yeah, I’m just amazed,” the caller said. “I guess I’m the third person who’s calling to say, Michael LaRosa, you’re doing a tag team with your Republican buddy. You might as well be a Republican. Do you want to win the Senate back in 2026? The only way you’re going to do it, you’re gonna need Michigan. And you’re dissing this guy El-Sayed. What’s wrong with you? Are you out of your mind? Yeah, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. It’s just beyond me that you’re– you’re coming on as a Democratic strategist? How can you, how dare you?

Slen then interjected to ask the caller if he voted for New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and if he considers himself a Democratic Socialist. The caller confirmed he was a Mamdani voter, and said he was split on the second question.

“They did screw Bernie [Sanders],” the caller said in reference to previous elections, “but the thing is, after the primary, I was advising people in my group, I was saying, ‘Please, you got to vote for Hillary.’ I know she stinks — to me. She stinks, but she doesn’t stink as much as Trump. Trump really stinks.”
