‘Who Booked Me For This Joint!?’ Abby Phillip’s Trainwreck Interview With Cam’ron Ends Abruptly

CNN’s Abby Phillip sought some insight into the scandals surrounding hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs on Monday, and someone thought infamously messy rapper Cam’ron was a good choice.

In short, he was not.

Phillip asked Cam’ron, real name Cameron Giles, about his past run-ins with Combs and if he “recognized” the Sean Combs from the 2016 video where he was seen assaulting Cassie Ventura. Not only did he have next to nothing to say about Combs, he was dismissive of Phillip’s questioning and wondered why he was even there.

To his credit, Cam’ron condemned the Cassie video, calling it “egregious,” and saying he was “upset” by it. But as a hint of what was to come, he added: “Not being that I know him, he’s not necessarily a friend, but, yeah, I was upset when I seen it.”

That’s where the interview quickly went downhill:

Phillip: Did you recognize him?

Cam’ron: Everything I just said–

Phillip: Did you recognize that kind of anger at all from your experiences?

Cam’ron: What do you mean? Do I be recognize, did I recognize him? I seen him. What do you mean, my experiences? I seen him, and I thought it was disgusting. I didn’t do a zoom-in to see if it was really him or not. But he admitted it was him, so, yeah, it was him.

It appeared that while Cam’ron might have some loose, business-related connections with Combs — Phillip played an interview with rapper Mace that discussed his relationship with the late Biggie Smalls, who had been signed to Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment — there wasn’t much of a personal relationship there, leaving Phillip reaching for something to ask him about.

But Cam’ron quickly lost interest and started plugging his drink company. Then he flat-out mocked the interview:

Phillip: What about the industry in general? I mean, so many people have pointed out that Diddy couldn’t get away with this stuff if there weren’t a lot of people protecting him. Do you think that’s the case?

Cam’ron: Who the talent agent for this joint? You think I’ll be sitting around watching what Diddy doing all this? I didn’t know this was a Diddy joint that you invited me to. Yo, who booked me for this joint? I smile and I don’t. Cameron Watson, did you know that?

Phillip: Thanks for joining us. Thank you for your time tonight.

Cam’ron: Thank you. Thank you for having me. You enjoy.
