‘You Need To Shut Up’: GOP Pollster Frank Luntz Slams Trump For Being ‘Focused On Insults’

Republican pollster Frank Luntz said that he’d advise former President Donald Trump to “shut up” and “stop behaving like a petulant child” in his attacks on Democratic rival Kamala Harris, warning that the Republican nominee is running out of time to reverse his decline in the polls.

At his Thursday press conference in New Jersey golf resort on Thursday, Trump raised eyebrows with controversial remarks that offended military veterans and insisted that he was “entitled” to insult Harris.

On a Friday morning segment on CNN, Luntz lashed out at Trump’s campaign strategy ahead of the Democratic National Convention as he discussed the polls and argued that such behavior is alienating voters who are already weary of the former president’s combative style:

Trump is focused on insults. If I were advising him, which I’m not, I would look him straight in the eye and say: “Sir, you need to shut up. You need to stop behaving like a petulant child and start focusing on what the American people want, in a way that they want to hear it.”

Look, if I yelled at you every time you had me on, you’ll stop having me on and you stop listening. Trump doesn’t understand that. People have to tell him the truth because at this point, [Harris has] gotten her convention bounds before the convention and I think Harris could have a five or six point lead coming out of that convention if Donald Trump continues to behave the way that he has.
