‘You Seem a Little Naive’: Jesse Watters Tells Democratic Candidate His Ideas Are ‘Straight-Up Wacky’

Fox News host Jesse Watters told Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, that he is “naive” and that his ideas are “straight-up wacky.”

Watters and El-Sayed went several rounds over the course of 25 minutes on Monday’s Jesse Watters Primetime, with the host asking El-Sayed about his campaign positions on abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, taxing the ultra-wealthy, and other topics. Watters also inquired about reparations for descendants of slaves, gender reassignment surgery for minors, and transgender women playing women’s sports, the latter of which the host called “a big issue.” El-Sayed mostly dodged questions about cultural issues and repeatedly attempted to steer the conversation toward matters of affordability and healthcare.

Near the end of the interview, Watters asked El-Sayed about his stance on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), whom he has criticized.

“Schumer,” Watters said. “You basically said you wanted his head on a stake when you were running in the primary. Do you still believe that?”

“Well look, me and the senator have one goal right now,” El-Sayed replied. “It is to win Michigan. So, we’re looking forward to doing that.”

El-Sayed went on to call his opponent, former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), “a beta.”

“I respect that you came on,” Watters said. “I don’t think you really looked into some of the policies you’re pushing. You seem a little naive, Abdul. I give you credit for facing that music. But some of this stuff’s just straight up wacky. You know? I don’t know if that’s gonna fly in Michigan, but we’re gonna find out.”

“At the end of the day, you know what’s wacky?” the candidate interjected. “You know [what] you didn’t ask me about? We got a president of the United States that cares more about the drapes in a ballroom that shouldn’t be built than he cares about the [Iran] war he just got us into or than he cares about the affordability crisis. That seems to be a little wacky. So, if we wanna have a serious conversation about what Michiganders are feeling, I’d love to come back on and talk about getting money out of politics, put money in your pocket, passing Medicare for All.”

“Ok, we’ll do it again,” Watters responded before wishing El-Sayed luck in November.
