Darline Graham Refuses To Say Whether She Would’ve Certified 2020 Election Like Her Brother

Sen. Darline Graham (R-SC) dodged a direct question Monday from MS NOW’s Mychael Schnell about whether she would have voted to certify
the 2020 election results.

The South Carolina senator was appointed to her late brother Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) seat at President Donald Trump’s urging in July. She’s now in a runoff GOP primary against Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC).

Back in 2021, the late senator voted to confirm the results of the 2020 election in former President Joe Biden’s favor, despite Trump’s baseless claims of fraud. According to a 2021 book by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward and CBS News’ Robert Costa, Graham privately dismissed Trump’s arguments at the time as being at a “third-grade” level.

During a Monday press conference, Schnell asked, “Senator, you just mentioned that you agree with your brother on everything except for one matter, that being illegal immigration. You’d go farther than him on that. That being said, I’m curious, do you agree with him about the 2020 election, that Joe Biden was certified the winner of that election, was lawfully elected, and that you would’ve voted to certify the election, as your brother did?”

“I think our election system is broken,” Graham responded. “That’s why I think it’s so important that we get the SAVE America Act passed. That’s why I wanted to stay through recess to get that done.”

The legislation has become a major priority for Trump, who has repeatedly pressed Congress to enact sweeping changes to federal election rules, including voter identification requirements. Trump and his allies have argued the measure is needed to combat voter fraud, while critics contend it would make it harder for eligible Americans to vote.

Trump even appeared to hint earlier this month that he could take matters into his own hands if Congress fails to act. After Real America’s Voice host Wayne Allyn Root suggested he declare a national security emergency to impose photo ID, proof-of-citizenship requirements and limits on mail-in voting ahead of the midterms, Trump replied, “Let me just say that stranger things have happened. OK, I’ll leave it at that.”
