Bill Maher Confronts Trump Fan Over First Weeks In Office: You Must Realize ‘This Is Really Going Badly’

Comic and political pundit Bill Maher confronted Trump supporter Batya Ungar-Sargon over the first seven weeks of President Donald Trump’s term, asking her to admit “This is going really badly.”

On Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Democratic governor of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro was the interview guest.

The panel guests were Sam Stein, managing editor of The Bulwark and MSNBC contributor; and Batya Ungar-Sargon, journalist and author of “Second Class: How the Elites Betrayed America’s Working Men and Women.”

Maher cut right to the chase to open the panel segment by cajoling Ungat-Sargon to fess up that she knows things aren’t going well and she was wrong to support Trump:

BILL MAHER: Like I said, we don’t have time to fuck around. I’ve got to go right at you, because I’ve known you for a while, and when I first read you, you were a conservative Republican, but not crazy.

Like I read you in Newsweek, Time magazine, and I’m not saying you’re crazy now, but you went from just a conservative leaning right to a Trump supporter, someplace I would never go.

BATYA UNGAR-SARGON: I mean, the night is young, Bill.

(LAUGHTER)

BILL MAHER: It is not ever going to be that young.

And I’m just wondering what you think now. We’re approaching two months in. I mean, you must have a feeling in your gut, look me in the eye and tell me you don’t, that this is really going badly and I shouldn’t have thrown my lot in with this team.

BATYA UNGAR-SARGON: Oh no, I feel the opposite.

BILL MAHER: Alright. (SLAPS DESK) Tell me why.

BATYA UNGAR-SARGON: I’m so sorry, Bill.

BILL MAHER: No, no, tell me why.

BATYA UNGAR-SARGON: No, I feel so proud of, I mean, I was never a Republican or a conservative. I was a leftist and I am still a leftist. I’m just a MAGA leftist now because–.

BILL MAHER: That makes no sense.
