‘HOW?!’ CNN Anchor Demands Explanation From House Republican Who Blamed Their Chaos on Biden
One line that House Republicans have been trying (and failing) to push is the idea that Democratic President Joe Biden is to blame for the chaos happening in their own conference after they pushed out their own Speaker of the House. Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) tried it on CNN anchor Boris Sanchez, and no, it did not work this time either.
House Republicans have been in disarray after one of their most extreme members, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), raised the successful motion to vacate former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Since then, the party has been unable to get behind another candidate, with too many factions within the GOP making it seemingly impossible to get one person the 217 votes they will need to become the next speaker.
Now, despite still coming up short in votes, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is forcing a vote on the floor on Tuesday at noon, and one of his supporters, Self, appeared on CNN to toe the party line — which is to blame Biden for their problems. It’s such a preposterous talking point that Sanchez immediately pushed back:
Sanchez: What message do you think it sends to world leaders, especially those authoritarians that are very much against the United States, like Vladimir Putin or Xi Jinping, that Congress doesn’t seem to be able to reach a consensus over something as basic as the Speaker of the House of Representatives?
Self: Well, the chaos today is because of the weakness in the Biden administration —
Sanchez: How?! It’s your party!
Self: The southern border —
Sanchez: It’s members of your party that ousted Kevin McCarthy!
Self: The southern border is absolutely in chaos. The inflation that is —
Sanchez: Congressman, but respectfully, respectfully, the reason the House doesn’t have a speaker is not because of Joe Biden. It’s because of members of your party. That’s why the House doesn’t have a speaker.
Self: Look, democracy is messy.
