Hunter Biden Gives Up His D.C. Law License Over Convictions

Hunter Biden willfully gave up his license to practice law in Washington, D.C., avoiding disbarment proceedings based on his prior criminal convictions.

The D.C. Bar’s Board on Professional Responsibility revealed this week that the son of former President Joe Biden dropped his D.C. law license. The board recommended Biden’s “consent to disbarment” be accepted.

Had Biden not given up his law license, he could have faced disbarment anyway over his prior gun and taxes convictions. The former president’s son was found guilty in June on gun charges, and he pleaded guilty in September.

Biden was admitted into the Washington, D.C. bar in 2007. His license had been under a temporary suspension since last year following him being found guilty on his gun charges, which included making a false statement on a gun purchase application, making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a federally licensed gun dealer, and possession of a gun by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

In recent years, Biden has focused on painting and other pursuits following a well-documented drug addiction.

Biden was awaiting sentencing stemming from his two trials when his father issued a “full and unconditional” pardon in December, just before leaving office. The then-president claimed his son was “selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted.”

“Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision,” Biden said at the time.
