Rep. Michael Guest (R-MS), the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, filed on Friday to expel fabulist Rep. George Santos (R-NY) from Congress.

Congressman Guest’s committee published a devastating report on Thursday laying out in stark detail the many schemes which Santos is alleged to have run on donors in order to enrich himself with the campaign funds.

New York Republican members introduced a resolution to expel Santos earlier in the month, but it was resoundingly defeated as many members believed Santos deserved due process before being expelled. Only five members of Congress have been expelled, three of whom were expelled during the Civil War. The other two members were expelled after being found guilty of federal felonies.

Santos has been charged with nearly two dozen federal charges related to allegations of fraud, identity theft, money laundering, and theft of public funds.

“The evidence uncovered in the Ethics Committee’s Investigative Subcommittee investigation is more than sufficient to warrant punishment and the most appropriate punishment, is expulsion,” said Guest in a statement.

On Thursday, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), argued that the Ethics Committee investigation was sufficient due process and he is now willing to vote to expel Santos. Buck argued Santos had the right to cooperate with the committee to clear his name, but he refused to do so.
