Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) may not like it, but he believes former President Donald Trump is all but a cinch to win the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 — if he wants it.

According to Politico, the Utah senator cannot conjure a development that would keep Trump from representing the Republican party in the fall of 2024.

“I don’t delude myself into thinking I have a big swath of the Republican Party,” Romney told Politico. “It’s hard to imagine anything that would derail his support. So if he wants to become the nominee in ‘24, I think he’s very likely to achieve that.”

A Trump 2024 bid would likely mean more of Romney trying to go incognito while on vacation in Florida. According to the new book This Will Not Pass (via Insider), Romney has regularly worn hats while out and about in Palm Beach — where he has a vacation home — in an effort not to be recognized by MAGA fans.

“If he were recognized by Trump supporters there, there was a good chance he would be harassed,” wrote This Will Not Pass authors Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns.

As to the idea of the GOP no longer being Romney’s party, Deseret News reports the senator was booed at Utah’s Republican convention last month, despite not even being in attendance.
