Texas Politician Stabbed, Husband Killed in Horrific Attack by Their Own Grandson: Police Allege

A popular Texas politician was injured and her husband was stabbed to death at the hands of their own grandson in a horrific attack early Monday, police allege.

Police responded to the Lewisville home just before 4 a.m. on a report of an assault in progress. Inside, they found Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell and her husband with multiple stab wounds.

The couple was transported to the hospital, where Mitchell’s husband, Fred Mitchell, was pronounced dead.

Mitchell Blake Reinacher, the Mitchells’ grandson, has been arrested and booked into the Lewisville jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, cops said.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy and I extend my sincerest condolences to the Mitchell family,” Denton Mayor Gerard Hudspeth said in an X post. “Commissioner Mitchell has spent years supporting the residents of Denton County, now her family needs our prayers and compassion. I stand ready to assist in anyway needed.”

Bobbie Mitchell was Lewisville’s first Black mayor, elected in 1993. She held that office until resigning in January 2000 to run for Denton County commissioner.

Mitchell’s bio on the Denton County website lists nine grandchildren, including Reinacher, and three great-grandchildren.
