Trump Bashes ‘Slow’ Fed Chair Jerome Powell and Threatens His Job: ‘If I Want Him Out, He’ll Be Out of There Real Fast’
President Donald Trump continued to bash Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Thursday, declaring definitively that “If I want him out, he’ll be out of there real fast.”
Trump lashed out at Powell in a Thursday morning Truth Social post after the economist criticized Trump’s tariff-heavy trade policy and insisted that “We’re [the Federal Reserve] never going to be influenced by any political pressure” at an event on Wednesday.
“The ECB is expected to cut interest rates for the 7th time, and yet, ‘Too Late’ Jerome Powell of the Fed, who is always TOO LATE AND WRONG, yesterday issued a report which was another, and typical, complete ‘mess!'” wrote Trump. “Oil prices are down, groceries (even eggs!) are down, and the USA is getting RICH ON TARIFFS. Too Late should have lowered Interest Rates, like the ECB, long ago, but he should certainly lower them now. Powell’s termination cannot come fast enough!”
During an Oval Office Q&A, Trump was asked about Powell and the chairman’s vow not to step aside if Trump asks him to.
” Oh, he’ll leave. If I ask him to, he’ll be out of there. But I don’t think he’s doing the job; he’s too late, always too late, a little slow, and I’m not happy with him,” answered Trump. “I let him know it, and, oh, if I want him out, he’d be out of there real fast. Believe me.”
