For those tired of hearing polite criticism of last night’s State of the Union Address ranging from “flat” to “lacking specifics” to simply falling short of expectations, well then get ready for Rush Limbaugh‘s arrival on the scene, which can best be symbolized as a bull in a china shop. Rush did not hesitate to unleash a fury of insults in his assessment of the “remarkably bad” speech.
Claiming he was “appalled and surprised at how bad it was,” Rush concluded that during his speech President Obama simply “couldn’t fake it” anymore and didn’t believe what the teleprompter was telling him to say. Rush also laughed at how few standing ovations there were and said “I don’t even remember the stupid joke about the salmon.” Most damning was the one moment in his diatribe where Rush intended to offer a serious critique:
“How in the world do you stand there, last night and talk about all the problems we’ve got with infrastructure and shovel-ready jobs, and forget to point out that you spent a trillion dollars to eliminate the problem two years ago. Well you do that because you figure people are stupid and you know that your sycophants in the media are not going to call you on it.”
The night wasn’t a total loss for Rush though. He was happy Speaker of the House John Boehner didn’t cry and realized “maybe the best thing about it is I didn’t have to look at [Nancy] Pelosi all night.”
