Katrina Pierson, spokeswoman for Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, has become the… let’s just say polarizing face of the real estate mogul’s presidential campaign on cable news, but Pierson has at least one defender from the onslaught of detractors. On Wednesday morning, Pierson made her obligatory appearance on CNN’s New Day, where co-anchor Chris Cuomo pressed her on the Trump campaign’s incessant complaining about the delegate process:
Does the Donald Trump campaign reject the system, or want to work the system? @ChrisCuomo asks @KatrinaPierson https://t.co/NYRwcgshkC
— New Day (@NewDay) April 13, 2016
Predictably, Pierson’s appearance led to a blizzard of negative tweets, but Cuomo, known for his heavy engagement on Twitter, put up a valiant defense of Pierson, and of himself:
.@NewDay @KatrinaPierson @ChrisCuomo Is it me or is Chris Cuomo a complete tool?

it is you…most definitely. https://t.co/lGWIQWxo4U

@ChrisCuomo LOL! I feels SHE's the tool… a Ratchet.

@ChrisCuomo I don't know how your head doesn't implode every single time you interview Katrina. ?

u judge what she says vs what u believe. i am disruptive to both sides…so it is not personal to me. make sense? https://t.co/jH06Y2hBa2

Cuomo takes a lot of guff from all sides, especially over his handling of Trump, but his interview technique and devotion to neutrality has allowed him to get results from Trump and his campaign that other journalists have not.
