Come Check Out These Photos of Syrian Refugee Kids Hanging Out at a Furry Convention
Conventions are becoming bigger and bigger every year. Conservatives have theirs. Geeks have one, too. Even people who use the blogging site Tumblr have a con. If you’re into it, there’s a convention for it, but that can get a little weird for people who aren’t into it and just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
That’s what happened to some Syrian refugees who entered Canada looking to start a new life, checked into a hotel, and found themselves sharing their space with a group that really exemplifies Western culture and behavior: Furries.
There have been a few instances of furries being too aggressive online, but in the case of the Syrian refugees, everything turned out better than expected. The people in charge of the VancouFur convention made sure of that by distributing information cards reminding their attendees that consent to interaction is extremely important.
Culture shock much? Some Syrian newcomers are staying at a hotel where the #VancouFur furry convention is going on. pic.twitter.com/rPi6HN72Lz

Incredibly, the refugees — especially the kids — were pretty enthusiastic with their consent! They played with the costumed attendees.
#furries and Syrian refugees! What a surprise for them xD #vancoufur pic.twitter.com/V6GxTVC0d2

The general vibe, at least coming from tweets from the furries involved, is one of happiness and good will. They seem to be thrilled they could entertain the kids who have fled their war-torn country.
Still so proud of how public-friendly @VancouFUR was this year! Seeing how thrilled the refugee kids were with the fursuits was my favorite!
