Doug Jones Upon Certification of Alabama Election Victory: ‘I Will Be an Independent Voice’
Late last night, former Alabama Supreme Court chief justice Roy Moore threw a desperate hail mary when he filed a legal complaint to challenge the results in the Alabama Senate special election. Moore, who lost to Democrat Doug Jones by more than 20,000 votes, wanted an Alabama court to block Jones from being certified today and call for a brand new election.
Yeah, that didn’t work out for Moore. And after Alabama officials certified the election results this afternoon, officially making Jones the victor, the Senator-elect released the following statement:
As you can see in the comments above, Jones said that his election “marks a new chapter” for Alabama. “I will be an independent voice and work to find common ground with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle,” he added.
Moore, who has refused to concede since losing to Jones more than two weeks ago, cited a JFK conspiracy theorist and the Breitbart comments section in his election complaint, claiming that he was the victim of widespread voter fraud. Prior to the complaint being tossed out, Moore spokesperson Janet Porter popped up on CNN to argue that there was a “1 in 15 billion chance” there was no election fraud in Jones’ victory.
