Gabrielle Giffords Will Move To A Houston Rehab Hospital

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords continues to make astounding progress as she recovers from having been shot several weekends ago outside a Tucson, Arizona Safeway. She is now well enough, her family is sharing, to leave her Arizona hospital this Friday and be admitted to a special rehabilitation facility to focus on her continued healing.

Giffords’ husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, took time to thank the medical team that helped save his wife’s life:

I am extremely hopeful at the signs of recovery that my wife has made since the shooting. The team of doctors and nurses at UMC [University Medical Center in Tucson] has stabilized her to the point of being ready to move to the rehabilitation phase.

Giffords’ family chose the Houston-based hospital over similar centers in Washington, D.C., New York, and Chicago.
