Here’s the OTHER Time Hilary Clinton Called Racist Trump Supporters ‘Deplorables’
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has occupied the Outrageous Quote Hot Seat usually reserved for her Republican rival ever since she called what she says is the racist half of Donald Trump‘s supporters a “basket of deplorables” on Friday night, but that wasn’t the only time Clinton employed the phrase. In an interview with Israeli television journalist Yonit Levi last week, Hillary used the same formulation, but with one key difference. While dividing Trump’s supporters into two “baskets,” Secretary Clinton did not assign a numerical value to the “haters” among Trump’s supporters:
Eliminate them from your thinking, because we’ve always had a kind of paranoiac, prejudicial element within our politics.
Following the uproar over her later comments, Secretary Clinton apologized for “saying ‘half’,” but stood by the substance of her remarks, and in the remainder of this interview, as she did Friday, Hillary described the other “basket” as people with legitimate frustrations:
These people have a case to make, and deserve to be listened to. I happen to think they are signing up with the wrong candidate.
Donald Trump has called for his rival, whom he calls “Crooked Hillary,” to apologize for the remarks.
