Hillary Clinton: America’s Gun Laws Are ‘Way Out of Balance’

During a speech at a National Council for Behavioral Health conference in Maryland Tuesday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke out against the current gun laws in the United States, saying as they stand now they are “way out of balance.”

“We’ve got to rein in what has become almost an article of faith that almost anybody can have a gun anywhere at any time,” Clinton said. “And I don’t believe that is in the best interest of the vast majority of people.” Referring to recent disputes like the one over cell phone use in a movie theater that ended in a deadly shooting, she said, “That’s what happens in the countries I’ve visited that have no rule of law.”

“At the rate we’re going, we’re going to have so many people with guns,” Clinton said, “in settings where … [they] decide they have a perfect right to defend themselves against the gum chewer or the cell-phone talker.”

At the same event, Clinton was asked the inevitable question about whether she plans to run for president in 2016. “Stay tuned,” she told the audience. “When I know, you’ll know.”
