Kanye West Cancels Today Show Performance After “Set Up,” Doesn’t “Hate Matt Lauer”

Matt Lauer threw down yesterday in his ongoing feud with Kanye West, by claiming no wrongdoing when he played the VMA stage-crashing video during a pre-taped West interview earlier this week.

He also announced West would be performing on the Today show two weeks from today – a performance West announced on Twitter this morning he would be canceling. The feud continues! (Sort of.)

Early this morning, Kanye West said on Twitter that he would not be performing on Today. “I’m not performing on the Today Show for obvious reasons. I’m so happy the world got to see just a small piece of ‘the set up’,” he tweeted.

Sadly though (for the media who covers the media), it doesn’t look like he’s holding it against Lauer: “And I don’t hate Matt Lauer… We don’t promote hate. That’s the whole point!!! I promote love and truth!”

I was wondering what the whole point was. Now we know. Kanye ended the Tw-rant with this: “All positive energy … all smiles. Much love to Matt and the whole Today Show. I accept ya’ll future apology in advance LOL!”

Maybe Kanye is setting this up to be a surprise appearance two weeks from now, squashing the beef in an epic NasJay-Z performance! Or maybe he’ll show up unannounced sometime next week and hang around with the people holding signs! Or maybe we’re just blowing this whole ridiculous thing out of proportion!

> Update: An NBC spokesperson tells Mediaite: “At this point, the Today show has not received confirmation from Kanye West or his representatives that he has canceled his performance.”

> Update 2: NBC tells us the concert is definitely canceled.
