— AFP news agency (@AFP) April 15, 2017
In a lengthy New York Times profile in 2016, Morano revealed that the secret to her longevity was a habit of eating three raw eggs a day. The Times estimated that would put her north of 100,000 eggs over the course of her prodigious life.
Born in 1899, during the administration of William McKinley, Morano was already an adolescent when the Titanic sank and lived through both World Wars.
With Morano’s death, the title of the world’s oldest person now passes to Violet Brown, of Jamaica, who is also 117.
