On his show today, radio host Rush Limbaugh took a concerned call from Matt, a listener for whom his show is the very foundation of his being. Matt wanted to discuss the “smokescreen” around Barack Obama‘s birth, telling Limbaugh that he doesn’t quite understand all the hoopla about whether the President’s certificate of live birth or birth certificate or what-have-you are “fraudulent documents.”
Limbaugh explained that some of the questions surrounding Obama’s eligibility as president stem from the fact that his “grandmother or aunt” in Kenya claims to have witnessed Obama’s birth in Africa. He then turned the topic over to Donald Trump, who has been steadily making the search for Obama’s birth certificate the primary focus point of his… pre-campaign campaigning, we’ll say. What Trump is doing, Limbaugh explained, goes beyond catering to so-called “birthers” – he is essentially providing Republicans with a framework for how to beat Barack Obama in the 2012 election, and for how to deal with Democrats in general:
Donald Trump is providing a lesson on how to beat Barack Obama. Donald Trump is showing that the way to do… You go after go after these people. Not just Obama. You go after the left, you go after the Democratic party. You don’t get timid, you don’t act defensive, and you don’t act afraid.
Limbaugh adds that Trump – and others’ – interest in Obama’s citizenship goes beyond a mere piece of paper; it has much to do with what some, like Limbaugh, perceive as his “un-American” attitude.
