Magic Johnson Reportedly Interested in Buying the Clippers

In his alleged racist rant leaked to TMZ, L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling tells his girlfriend he doesn’t want her publicly associating with black men like Magic Johnson. Well, now Johnson is reportedly aiming to succeed Sterling has owner of the Clippers if Sterling gets ousted as a result of the rant going public.

Johnson’s first reaction to the audio was to say he’ll be boycotting any Clippers games as long as Sterling remains the owner, and told ABC yesterday that Sterling “shouldn’t own a team anymore.”

It turns out, however, that if Sterling gets the boot (which won’t be an easy task), Johnson may swoop in and buy the team himself.

Magic Johnson and his billionaire backers, the Guggenheim Partners, want a chance to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. “Magic’s absolutely interested,” one source closely connected to Johnson’s business interests told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night.

When Johnson was in the NBA he played for the L.A. Lakers, and he, along with Guggenheim Partners, currently owns the L.A. Dodgers.
