Mediaite Is Now Hiring a Full-Time Morning Editor

Mediaite is looking for an ambitious, energetic, newshound to analyze the names, the brands, the gossip, the digerati of news, politics, pop culture, and entertainment. You would be writing stories and occasional opinion pieces (as well as editing) using any and all of the tools of digital storytelling: Words, video, pictures, social interactions, book excerpts, you name it.

In addition, you would be responsible for helping develop, implement, and oversee the editorial vision of Mediaite, seeking to grow the site above and beyond its recent record-breaking 12 million monthly unique visitors. The hours are roughly from 6:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. and for the first hour or so, the person is on his/her own determining the morning coverage.

Requirements:

–Must have at least 2 years in a newsroom or at a blog.
–You should have a clear, concise, and in-depth knowledge of the world of politics and media, including online personalities, major cable and broadcast networks, leading columnists, and general thought-leaders.
–You should thrive under pressure, and excel when stress levels are at their highest.
–You need to be able to write multiple posts in a short period of time.
–Experience working in fast-paced, breaking news environments is a huge plus.
–You should have a clear understanding of how Facebook, Twitter, user-generated content, and viral videos shape the news cycle.
–You should have strong news judgment and an eye for underreported content and ideas. Can you find the nugget of interest that no one else has discovered?
–An encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture — especially television — is quite helpful.

You should have the ability to write an “objective” news article at one moment, and transition into writing an opinionated column the next. You should also be able to fairly edit pieces even if they conflict with your own political beliefs.

This is a full-time, salaried position. Flexibility to occasionally work nights and/or weekends is a must.

Availability to work out of our New York headquarters is strongly preferred but not required.
