NYPD Commissioner Responds to #MyNYPD Backlash: Most of the Photos ‘Old News’

The New York Police Department attempted to start a social media trend yesterday with the hashtag #MyNYPD and asking people to share photos of their experiences with the NYPD. And… well, at least a lot of people noticed.

Well, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton responded to the backlash today by largely brushing it aside.

“I kind of welcome the attention,” Bratton said Wednesday as the negative tweets kept coming nearly 24 hours after cops invited the cyber-submissions. “We really broke the numbers yesterday…

“Most of the pictures I looked at, they’re old news,” Bratton said, tossing previous NYPD administrations under the patrol car. “They’ve been out there for a long time.”

He also said, “Often times police activities are lawful, but look awful.”
