Richard Linklater Ridicules Ted Cruz’s ‘Tough as Texas’ Tagline in New Political Ad

As the 2018 Texas Senate battle rages on between Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rouke, the former is facing mockery and ridicule thanks to star-studded political advertisement making waves on the Internet.

Film director Richard Linklater and actor Sonny Carl Davis teamed up with the Fire Ted Cruz Pac to film a rebuke to Cruz’s “Tough as Texas” campaign slogan. Movie buffs will notice the video’s apparent homage to Linklater’s film Bernie from 2011, and political observers will note that Davis questions how Cruz can be “tough as Texas” when he capitulated to President Trump so thoroughly after their bitter rivalry from the 2016 election.

“If somebody called my wife a dog, and said my daddy was in on the Kennedy assassination, I wouldn’t be kissin’ their ass,” Davis says. “You stick a finger in their chest and give ’em a few choice words. Or you drag their ass out by the woodshed and kick their ass, Ted. Come on, Ted.”
