At today’s White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer took on questions from several reporters who pressed him on President Donald Trump resurrecting his claims that millions of people voted illegally during the election, with Spicer saying Trump “believes what he believes.”
At one point in the presser, CNN’s Jeff Zeleny continuously pressed Spicer on the issue, asking what this means for democracy. Following the news conference, CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin was seemingly shell-shocked over what she had just witnessed.
“That was stunning,” she stated with a look of genuine surprise on her face.
Baldwin noted that Spicer had said that Trump believes that widespread voter fraud took place in the election, explaining that this “begs the question what evidence does he have” and if this is “an alternative fact.”
She would then turn to CNN political director David Chalian for some commentary and analysis, with Chalian stating that Trump’s claims have been debunked and that the president pushing this could undermine our democratic foundations. Baldwin would also speak to Zeleny a bit for his take on the presser.
