The Boston Police Department’s Patrol Fleet Now Includes an Ice Cream Truck

BRB, moving to Boston real quick, because one of their police cars is now an ice cream truck. Seriously. The police department has added an $89,000 ice cream truck to its fleet as part of an initiative called  “Operation Hoodsie Cup” which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like- a free ice cream initiative.

Since 2010, the Boston Police Department has distributed about 120,000 free Hoodsie Cups. Of the new purchase, commissioner William Evans told the news that “he would’ve called you crazy if you told him 30 years ago that the BPD would have an ice cream truck as part of its fleet, but the goodwill it generates is ‘undeniable.'” All of the ice cream for distribution was donated by HP Hood, a dairy company.
