The Dalai Lama Weighs in on Trump’s Presidency: ‘I Have No Worries’
The world has now had over two weeks to come to terms with the fact that Republican nominee Donald Trump will soon be President of the United States after his upset win over Hillary Clinton. And one influential world leader who has not weighed in on the topic just yet was the Dalai Lama, who was finally asked by reporters this week for his reaction to the U.S. election outcome.
Speaking from Mongolia, His Holiness spoke candidly about Trump’s rhetoric on the campaign trail and how he hopes that it may differ from his actual policies and actions once he’s in office.
“Sometimes I feel during the election the candidate has more freedom to express [himself],” the holy Tibetan leader told reporters. “Now once they are elected, having the responsibility, then they have to carry their cooperation, their work according to reality,” he continued.
When asked about any potential concerns has has for the future administration, the Dalai Lama answered candidly: “I have no worries.”
The Dalai Lama has visited with President Barack Obama on four separate occasions during his administration, most recently in June of this year.
