Over the past 24 hours, there have been more and more rumblings about the possibility that President Donald Trump could face impeachment over “obstruction of justice.” This comes in the wake of a report that Trump asked then-FBI Director James Comey to stop the investigation into ex-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
This morning, one Democratic congressman who took to the House floor to call for impeaching Trump.
“It is time for you to let us know where you stand,” Rep. Al Green (D-TX) bellowed. “I’ve seen a poll that indicates a majority now of those being polled are for impeachment!”
Green went on to say that Congress needs to let the American people speak since it appears they want to see the president face impeachment. He added that this was “one of the highest callings a member of Congress has to address” and is a matter of “patriotism.”
“This is where I stand,” Green exclaimed. “I will not be moved. The president must be impeached!”
Earlier this week, Green released a statement claiming the president “had committed an impeachable act and must be charged.” He cited last week’s firing of Comey — and Trump’s seeming admission that he canned the FBI director due to the Russian investigation — as an act of obstruction.
