Twitter Has Field Day With New Painting of Trump Administration In A Literal Swamp

The next great American painting is here.

Modeled after Washington Crossing the Delaware by George Caleb Bingham, American painter Jon McNaughton‘s Crossing the Swamp depicted President Donald Trump in Washington’s place — with his coterie of administration officials paddling the boat keeping them (barely) afloat.

From left to right, the people depicted are: UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Secretary of Defense James Mattis, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, President Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Vice President Mike Pence, First Lady Melania Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, Ivanka Trump, National Security Advisor John Bolton, Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway, and Chief of Staff John Kelly.

“I prefer to paint pictures that I believe have relevance to what is going on in the world, that make a statement, that stand for something,” McNaughton wrote on his website.

Twitter erupted over the new work of art, singing its praises, quipping about who was left out, and making plenty of snarky comments:
