Twitter Stunned By Trump’s Admission of Why He Demeans The Press: ‘This Man Needs To Be Stopped’
During a conversation between PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff and CBS News’ Lesley Stahl at the Deadline Club Awards Dinner this year, Stahl shared an anecdote about President Donald Trump which, in theory, shouldn’t be all that shocking, but in practice, is very shocking indeed.
Before an interview with the then-presidential candidate at Trump Tower, Stahl asked why he insists on discrediting the press, and Trump responded thusly: “I want to demean you and discredit you so that when you do negative stories about me, no one will believe you.”
This admission incensed Twitter:

It’s obvious this is what he’s doing, but still kind of amazing that he’d say it out loud https://t.co/ojwCjdFHZX

Read this. This is what it ALL boils down to with this President: “I want to demean you and discredit you so that when you do negative stories about me, no one will believe you." https://t.co/vrVEM2NmSm

This is why, "If we just focus on making sure we're not perceived as 'adversarial,' we'll win his base's trust" is pointless. Do the work, describe reality as you actually find it, and let the perceptions fall where they may. https://t.co/8WW7FpiLZc
